My little secret.

I haven't read anyone's blogs in days, so I'm catching up on that as we speak.

Quick update as to why I've been gone:

Friday night, I had to leave work early to go to the hospital ER. My heart felt like it would explode, I was super dizzy, and I felt like I was going to pass out. When I got to the ER, they hooked me up to an IV and the whole bit. I was there all night. They never told me what was wrong with me though. They couldn't figure it out....

I'm wondering if it had anything to do with my little secret..? But I OBVIOUSLY couldn't ask that question. So I'll ask you guys instead. Do you have heart issues similar to that? I know in the late stages of anorexia there are definitely heart problems but I am SO not at that point yet. Is it happening anyways?

My heart still hurts even as I'm writing this and I am getting dizzy. It's not from not eating. I just ate 20 min ago.

Help!

  1. aah. I'm sorry you went through that! I don't know what's going on but def. make sure you're keeping hydrated and try to take vitamins if you aren't already (though the vitamins won't help with your immediate problem I don't think).

Ask Pasco... she's a med student!!

  2. I developed a heart murmur at my lowest weight a couple of years back.. I was still at a bmi above 17 (17 = anorexic bmi), but my heart rate was down to 40 bpm. I guess the heart is really sensitive to weight loss. All my symptoms went away when I gained weight again.

I have not idea how serious it is though.

  3. I had an episode like that once... I had lost 8 pounds in 3 days and had a fever of 104, severe arrythmia (my heartbeat was erratic and hard enough to hurt), BP well below 90/ 50. Also, my teeth were chattering hard enough that I kept biting my tongue :/

My BMI was around 19-- i.e., probably totally fine. Caffeine can cause that sort of arrythmia (and it's in all sorts of weight loss supplements). I have no medical background, so I can't tell you why it happened... just that, yeah, it probably has something to do with your eating habits :)

    I hope you're feeling better :)
